FOREVER FRIENDS

We had a wonderful Zone Conference at Somerset West chapel and lunch. This will be the last one for Elder and Sister Oldham, they depart February 7th. They certainly are going to be missed.

Taken on the 7th the day the Oldham's are leaving......now the fun begins. What are going to do without them?

ONE FUN ASSIGNMENT - REDECORATING THE MISSION OFFICE

When we first arrive on mission I was asked to work with Derrick who is over the facilities of the church. We picked out   a color of paint to paint the outside of the building. I suggested that two large pots with trees would add to the the overall look of the building. Elder Henderson and I found the pots on our way to Hermanus. I talking to Derrick I mentioned that we certainly could use some new carpet in the office. He added to his budget and thus in January we were able to make the change. Sister Wood had chosen a beautiful scarf which had been draped over the couch. Whenever anyone sat on the couch it became wrinkled.  I wanted to put in on the wall as a hanging. I used the scarf as the inspiration for the orange chairs and the green ruffled curtain I sewed. I had been given a budget of R5000 for the chairs. As I shopped I found that all the chairs were about that much for just one chair. I found a place that would recover both of the chairs for a total of R3500. I was very please.

The new carpet is wonderful. At President Wood's request we all take our shoes off now, but it is a pleasure to the feet to walk on our plush new carpet. This picture above is part of our kitchen.

"HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU"

This girl deserves a write up of her own. We would not have been able to manage this mission without the help of our darling daughter. Today we honor the day she was born. We have said from the beginning, if the Lord was going to give us only one daughter, he would send us the best he had.....and so HE did!!!

CAPE TOWN MISSION COUPLES CONFERENCE GROUP

Group photo at Arderns Gardens

My new found friend, Sister Louise Nye

How fun is this!!!
Three days of training, eating and playing. Rubbing shoulders with the salt of the earth, it can't get any better than this. The conference was held at President and Sister Woods, the mission home. Couples drove or were flown to Cape Town from East London, Port Elizabeth, Port Alfred and Namibia. This was also a farewell to Elder and Sister Nye.  We had not met until this conference we had only spoke on the phone.  Sister Nye and I felt like we had know each other all our lives. She reminds me of my Aunt Fran, funny, clever and a joy to be with. We wish them the best and hope to see them again one day.
